Glutathione (GSH) is a naturally occurring tripeptide composed of glutamate, cysteine and glycine, joined by an unusual γ-peptide bond. It is the most abundant intracellular thiol and is studied extensively as a reference compound in oxidative-stress, redox-signalling and detoxification research; its reducing activity derives from the thiol group of its cysteine residue.
